An all-in-one smart home system

At a property in West London’s Ealing district, we implemented the essentials of a state-of-the-art URC home automation system for controlling AV, sound, lighting and CCTV in the home.

Placed at the heart of this smart home infrastructure was a control system from URC and connected to all nine rooms of the property.

Essentially, the home’s residents were able to enjoy a tightly-integrated entertainment system in the property and, even at a distance from it, secure it effectively against potential intruders.

The challenge

A convoluted home waiting to be made simple

Like many London homeowners, the residents here were faced with a property that technically “worked” but, in many respects, could be cumbersome to use in practice.

For example, the in-home internet connectivity could be prone to faltering, while a security risk assessment conducted by our professionals unveiled holes in the existing security setup.

We are about stripping friction from the home lifestyle equation, which is why we chose a smart home solution that would connect various aspects of the home to one control system.

The Solution

Through establishing a 4K distribution matrix, we enabled the end user to enjoy 4K Sky, Netflix, Apple TV and PlayStation content on any TV in their house. For the cinema room, we fitted a projector in the ceiling and integrated an electrical screen flush with the wall.

The home’s entertainment system even poured into the garden, where we installed an externally graded, 65-inch TV. The residence’s speaker system now included wireless Sonos options integrated with the home’s existing wired speakers. We also resolved the internet issue by installing eight Wi-Fi access points and adding fail-safe connectivity options.

We strengthened the property’s security by fitting a 4K Hikvision CCTV system. This was configured with a smart notification system and channelled through just one HDMI AV source, allowing the residents to easily monitor their home through its TV system or even from afar on a mobile phone or tablet.
