A multifaceted smart home solution

At a home in the prestigious Webb Estate in Purley, we installed a URC home automation system integrating security, audiovisual, Wi-Fi and utilities services.

To strengthen the property’s security, we installed a 16 channel 4K Hikvision CCTV system and a double-panelled Comelit video door entry system.

We also fitted a Nest lighting system as well as eight televisions allowing 4K-resolution imagery to be distributed around all main rooms of the house.

The challenge

A communication problem waiting to be unravelled

As residents on the Webb Estate encounter very poor mobile phone reception, we implemented a mobile phone signal system which significantly improved this particular property’s mobile reception.

As the property’s residents often struggled to play entertainment content intuitively, we opted for a control system from URC, one of the biggest names in smart home control.

We installed a Sky Q dish, an aerial and DAB radio – but the AV system we provided was also integrated with Apple TV, YouTube and Netflix services.

The Solution

In total, we installed 66 data points/cables and 12 aerial coax points around the house. In large part due to laying the infrastructure cabling beneath floorboards, loft spaces and joists, we could create a smart home system rich in functionality while still seamless to use.

As we integrated the security cameras, intercom system and AV system into one main URC server sited in a rack-based data cabinet with other media sources, the eight main rooms were each left with a TV, 2-4 speakers, lights and a URC control device as the only visible smart home elements.

However, in each room, the user could open and close gates, view CCTV, turn lights on and off, change mood lighting and control room temperature – all from the same URC tablet or smart device. This device could also conveniently show visitors who had pressed the intercom bell.
